Charles H. “Sneezy” Alger, age 88, longtime resident of Romulus died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse after several weeks of declining health.
The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Sunday, July 24, 2022, a graveside service at Mount Green Cemetery in Romulus will then follow. Chuck was born in Montour Falls on October 20, 1933, a son of the late Sylvester and Martha Alger, he joined the US Army in 1953 and proudly served during the Korean Conflict until 1956 mustering out as a sergeant. Upon his return, he worked locally and then began a long career with the Varick Highway Department. His time was fondly spent with family, coffee at the firehouse and working with the Amish community in his retirement. His kindness and love will always be felt in everyone that ever knew him. He was one of a kind.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Rod Spencer) Willower of Lehigh Acres, FL; his grandchildren, Ryan (Tera Erway) Willower of Romulus, Melissa (Aaron) Stevens of Newark_; his great grandchildren, Henry and Theodore; his siblings, Allen (Debbie) Alger of Outer Banks, NC, Gary Alger of Ovid, Linda (Ron) Crumb of Clyde and his beloved nieces and nephews, friends and HIS best friend, “Chuck”.
Sneezy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet in 2009 and by a stepson, Stephen Haring in 2021.
