Marjorie A. Champion, age 66, of South Town Building Road, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Cayuga Medical Center, following an extended illness.
The family will receive friends from Noon to 1:00pm on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid. A funeral service will then follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. She was born in Seneca Falls on April 8, 1951, one of ten children born to the late Harold and Dorothy (Bennett) Champion. She had attended South Seneca, and worked as a cook and waitress for several years. She had a long career at the former Lakeside Nursing Home in Ithaca, working as a CNA, and retiring as a Team Leader in the housekeeping department. She was affectionately known as ‶Maudie″ to her family and friends, her cooking and baking were the focal points all of the family gatherings.
Marjorie is survived by her longtime companion, Ross Searles of Ovid; her children, Dewey (Kelly) Truax of Lodi, Kimberly (Stewart) Woodard of Romulus, and Karen (Pam Steen) Nyhagen of Ovid; grandchildren, Hayley & Haydan Truax, Kendra (Cory Albro) Jones, Stewart (Cierra Gable) Woodard Jr., Cheyenne and Savannah Woodard and great grandchildren, Julia, Karlee and Branson; her brothers, Robert, Lester, and Ralph Champion; a sister, Yvonne Ward; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin, Jack, and Harold Champion; and by sisters, Jean Beaman and Elma Updike.
