A. White Doris

d. March 6, 2017

Doris A. White, age 82, died at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, NY, on March 6, 2017. A gathering to celebrate Doris❜s life will be held at Ginny Lee Café this spring or early summer - the date and time will be announced by the family later. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in memory of Doris to one of her favorite organizations, where she had many friends and where she donated considerable time and effort towards their success: the Lodi Historical Society, PO Box 279, Lodi, NY 14860, and the Lodi Whittier Library, PO Box 208, Lodi, NY 14860.

Doris was born in Hackensack, NJ on May 10, 1934, the daughter of Leonard and Sophie (Petterson) Anderson of Teaneck, NJ, both of whom immigrated to the US from Sweden. In the late 1940❜s, the Andersons moved to Caywood, NY. Doris graduated from Ovid Central School in 1952, and then graduated in 1954 from the Katherine Gibbs Executive Secretarial School in New York City. She worked at the Edison Institute in NYC, and then worked in the office of the Dean of Engineering at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. During this time, she was engaged to Glenn A. White, who had recently been honorably discharged from the US Marine Corps. Doris and Glenn were married in Odessa, NY, on May 19, 1957, and shortly thereafter they moved to Shippensburg, PA, where Glenn was assigned for his job with the Department of the Army. In the following decades, Doris and Glenn lived in many locations, including Pennsylvania, California, Texas, Illinois, Italy, and Hawaii. In 1987, they returned home to the Caywood farm in Lodi and enjoyed farming, gardening, volunteering, gatherings on Seneca Lake, and hosting visiting family and friends.

Doris is survived by Glenn, her loving husband of nearly 60 years; son Jonathan (and his wife Janeil) of Littleton, CO; son Jeffrey of Cedaredge, CO; son William (and his wife Kelly) of Norfolk, MA; son Robert of Boulder, CO; and their grandsons Jacen, Jackson, Zachary, and Jeremy.
