A. Jennings George

George A. Jennings, age 90, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Monday, August 24, 2015.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Lodi Presbyterian Church, officiated by Pastor Jim Yao. Prayers of Committal with military honors will be held at West Lodi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Manning-Lilla American Legion Memorial Fund, PO Box 401, Ovid, NY 14521.

George was born in Lodi, on April 24, 1925, a son of the late Charles L. and Helen (Bainbridge) Jennings. Upon graduation from the Lodi High School, he entered the US Marine Corps and proudly served his country during WWII, he was hailed a championship boxer for the Marine Corps. Upon his return from military duty, he began a long career at Willard Psychiatric Center, where he worked as a stationary engineer. George was also a principal in RJG Enterprises, that contracted the removal of many buildings at the site of the former Sampson Air Force Base. He was THE number one fan of both the NY Yankees and the Syracuse Orange, while he also enjoyed hunting, golf and perhaps, may be best remembered for his ‶story telling″. George had been a Mason, and a member of the Ovid VFW Post #6200 and the Manning-Lilla American Legion Post #463.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Lois; his children, George R. Jennings, Bradford C. (Kristin) Jennings and Roxanne D. (Bruce) Jennings-Ross; his grandchildren, Shane M., Ryan N., Brittany M., Austin J. and Dakota C. Jennings and Brett M. Ross; a great granddaughter, Paige Olivia Scott-Ross; a sister, Leona Rosbaugh and a large extended family. George was preceded in death by his loving son, Gregory L. Jennings and by his brothers, Charles and Clayton Jennings. The family would like to extend a special thank you to ‶Dad❜s Girls″, Rose Snyder, Sharon Bastian and Debbie Prindle for the loving and devoted care given to George in the last months of his life.
