A. Maxsom Hilde

Hilde A. Maxsom, 90, of Lodi, died December 3, 2017 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing in Montour Falls.

At Hilde❜s request, a Celebration of Life for both she and her husband, Arthur, will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Lodi Historical Society Building, followed by a reception until 4:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Lodi Historical Society, PO Box 279 or the Lodi Whittier Library, PO Box 208, Lodi, NY 14860 in Hilde❜s memory.

Hilde was born in Bergreichenstein, Czechoslovakia, on October 9th 1927, a daughter of Ludwig and Maria (Klement) Thurmwald. She left her home to avoid the Russian occupation and settled in Nurnberg, Germany. There she met her husband, Arthur Maxsom and traveled to the US. Her husband was career military and the family traveled widely with the US Army. She proudly earned her citizenship in San Antonio, Texas.

After moving to Lodi in 1973 she quickly joined several local organizations, often hosting meetings for the Lodi Historical Society, Lodi Whittier Library and 20th Century Club in her home. Of all the places she had lived she always said she felt instantly at home in Lodi and loved her many friends, with whom she shared her love of gardening, painting and needlework.

Hilde and her husband, Arthur owned and operated Maxsom❜s Bed and Breakfast for over 25 years until his death in 1995. She continued the business alone until she was in her 80❜s. In 2011 she decided to move into assisted living in Sterling House in Ithaca where she enjoyed all the activities for several years before Alzheimer❜s caused her rapid decline. She then moved into Clare Bridge and ultimately to Seneca View Skilled Nursing.

She is survived by her son, Joseph (Sheryl) Maxsom of El Paso, TX, daughters, Claudia (Robert) Zemanek, of Lodi; Victoria Maxsom, of Ithaca; grandchildren, Robert (Breana) Zemanek III, of Ithaca; Amber (Rob) Ordway, of Boynton Beach, FL; Heather (Dan) Denny, of Belgrade, MT; eight great-grand children; and many nieces and nephews. She was especially close to niece, Yvonne Kinz, of Niagara Falls, NY; niece, Inge Kohler, of Germany; and nephew, Jurgen Knotz, of Germany.

She was greatly loved by all her family and will be sorely missed.
