Robert A. LaPrade, age 69, died on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid. Prayers of Committal with Military Honors will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus. Bob was born in Schenectady on May 15, 1947, one of seven children born to the late Floyd and Louise (LaBombard) LaPrade. Upon completion of high school, he served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. He was in the 4th Infantry Division, and spent several years in Vietnam. Bob then spent the rest of his working career in the Army, retiring from Seneca Army Depot in 1987 as a Sergeant Major. He was an active member and Past Commander of the Manning-Lilla American Legion Post #463, and was instrumental in bringing the Vietnam Wall Memorial to Ovid. Bob was also a member of the Waterloo VFW Post #6433.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer and his children; Jessica Wilson of Bolivar, NY, Christopher (Jean) Wilson of Interlaken, Nicholas Wilson of Ovid, Robert (Molly) LaPrade of Waterloo, Tina (John) Reed of Seneca Falls and all of their families, his beloved dog, ‶Sarge″ survives him, as well as the extended LaPrade family.
