Ann Pentz Majel

Majel Ann Pentz, age 78, of Trumansburg, NY, formerly of Lodi and Canandaigua, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2015, at Cayuga Medical after an extended illness. Calling hours will be Friday, January 16, 2015, from 4-6 PM at the Covert Funeral in Ovid. Her funeral will be Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 10:00 AM, in the Lodi Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Yao officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to your local food pantry in Majel’s memory.

Majel was born to the late J. Joyce Desmond and Frank C. Rich, Jr. on May 25th of 1936. She grew up in Groveland, moving eventually to Canandaigua, NY. She graduated from Canandaigua Academy and went to Heidelberg College in Ohio for her Bachelor’s Degree in Education; she attained her Master’s at Cornell University. Majel was married to the late George V. Pentz in 1962 and they moved to Lodi, NY, which was her home until the fall of 2007 when she moved to Trumansburg. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Ross Rich, and sister, Audrey Rich Taylor (Don). She is survived by a daughter, Susan Frost (Steve), of Trumansburg, a son Frank V. Pentz (Aaron) of Burdett, five grandchildren, Zachary Frederick (WA) , Aaron Frederick, Jonathan Frederick, Ross Pentz, and Maggie Pentz, nieces Joanne Mitchell (Ted), Ovid, Kathy Sheridan (Lew), Dundee, Helen VanArsdale (Jim), Seneca Falls, nephews Donald Taylor, NJ, and David Taylor (Gail), WY, and numerous cousins, great-nephews and nieces, and “adopted” children and grandchildren whom she loved very much.

Majel was active in the Lodi Presbyterian Church, participating in Adult Sunday School and various Bible Studies, singing in the choir, running the Free Lunch program, and spear-heading the Presbyterian Women’s group. Majel had a card, letter, and telephone ministry in which she supported others through difficult times. She loved to cook and bake cookies. For years, she baked the cookies for the Lodi Recreation Program, accompanied her husband George on a Pennysaver delivery route south of Lodi and into the Hector area on Tuesdays, sold Fuller Brush and Princess House. Majel knitted many a prayer shawl, dish clothes, and crocheted scrubbies. She loved identifying wild flowers, enjoyed her birds, singing hymns with friends, and faithfully watched Lawrence Welk each Saturday night. She spent many years vacationing in the Adirondack Mountains with her parents; this love of the mountains was passed down to her children and grandchildren. Lake Eaton will always be a cherished place and memory.
