B. ‶Bill″ Vannostrand William

William B. “Bill” VanNostrand, age 84, of Waterloo passed away at Demay Living Center in Newark on Wednesday, April 8, 2015.

The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00pm on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street, Ovid. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will follow at 3:00pm in Holy Cross Cemetery in Ovid. Bill was born in Toledo, Ohio on September 8, 1930, a son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Burroughs) VanNostrand. An Air Force veteran, Bill honorably served his country from 1948 to 1952. He worked as a maintenance supervisor at Willard Psychiatric Center for 37 years prior to his retirement in 1985. An active member of the community, Bill served as Town Justice in Ovid for 24 years and as the Village Justice in Ovid for 15 years, was a past commander and life member of the Ovid American Legion, life member of the South Seneca Sportsmen’s Club, was a former Boy Scout leader, and was President of the Seneca County Magistrates Association. In his free time, Bill was an avid golfer.

Bill is survived by three children, Richard “Ric” (Linda) VanNostrand of Stuart, FL, Gail (Peter) Zabawsky of Trumansburg, and Barry (Laurie) VanNostrand of Williamson; six grandchildren, Scott (Tanya) and Chad (Leigh) Grove, Sarah (Jonah) Michael, Aaron VanNostrand, Scott (Donna) VanDusen, and Jackie (Bob) Scheiwiller; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother in law, Lloyd Kenyon. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Marie VanNostrand; a brother, Jack VanNostrand; and two sisters, Maxine “Mick” Kenyon and Joanne Kamann.
