Mary C. VanVleet went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 5th, two days after celebrating her 88th birthday with all 8 of her children.
With her quiet faith and infectious laugh, Mary touched the lives of so many. She was always there to listen and offer understanding and hope to others; her door was always open. She loved nature, art, and finding beauty and uniqueness in all things. Mary was born in Ithaca on May 3, 1930, daughter of the late Leslie H. and Eve (Gould) Connelly. Her farm life in Lodi began when she married Stanley VanVleet August 8, 1948.
She is survived by her 8 children; Lawrence (Cynde) VanVleet of Southern, CA, James (Doreen) VanVleet of Ovid, Marian Higgins Hall of Ovid, Robert (Laura) VanVleet of Lodi, Beverly (Mark) DeLong of Romulus, Daniel (Mary Catherine) VanVleet of Lodi, Christopher (Marcia) VanVleet of Shelburne MA, Melanie (Scott) Mansfield of Vestal NY, 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and by a sister Patricia Cargill of Endicott and a brother Leslie (Bud) Connelly of FL. Mary was preceded in death by her brother Stanley Connelly of Virgil.
Calling hours will be held at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Thursday, May 10, 2018, additionally, the family will host a reception at the Ginny Lee Café on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. for anyone to join in a time of sharing and remembrance. Graveside services will be held privately at West Lodi Cemetery on Saturday.
