Carolyn was born in Utica, NY on August 8, 1938, the daughter of the late Mathew C. and Caroline (Myers) Norton. She was a 1956 graduate of Cathedral Academy in Syracuse. Carrie began her career in 1974 in the greater Ithaca area as a Real Estate Sales Agent, first for Rebe Biggs Smith Real Estate and then JD Gallagher, before starting her own business Carrie Martin Real Estate as an independent Real Estate Broker.  Carrie had a strong faith in God and enjoyed bible study each morning.  She was a caring and dedicated mother who dearly loved her children and home. She began a lifelong devotion to her family genealogy at the age of 13 and took great pride in forming deep roots in Trumansburg. She was the 1972 author of the Centennial History of Trumansburg, Village Historian, Co-chair of the Centennial Committee, and columnist for The Free Press, writing an “Erma Bombeck style” weekly article titled “Carrie On.”  Carrie was well known for her contributions to many different organizations and projects within the community including the Daughters of the American Revolution, Trumansburg Fire Department, and the Gemm Shop. She was devoted to her children’s education and was active in the PTA, band boosters, and student foreign exchange host program.  Carrie was interested in all things Trumansburg to benefit the community and her family’s quality of life.

She is survived by her children; Linda (Robert) Carpenter of Valencia, PA, Dr. Steven (Christine) Martin of Morrisville, NY, Kelley (Kenneth) Hill of Lexington, SC and Karen (Bruce) Vann of Trumansburg; daughter in law, Ann Martin of Trumansburg; 7 grandchildren, and two great grandsons.  Carolyn was preceded in death by her son, James Martin. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family.

A private graveside memorial service will be held for family at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Family History Center, 110 N.
