Cathleen "Kate" Hunt

Cathleen “Kate” Hunt, 73, passed away peacefully on December, 1st, 2023. A celebration of her life will be planned in Spring 2024.

Kate was born on May 20th, 1950 in Bloomfield, NY to parents Richard and Betty Clark. Summers of her childhood were spent at the family cottage on the shores of Canandaigua Lake, where her enduring love of swimming in the Finger Lakes began. As an adult Kate lived and worked in Geneva, NY and graduated as an LPN from the Marion Wheeler nursing program. She worked as a nurse at Geneva General hospital for many years and her lifelong love of caring for young children blossomed while working with the newborns and young children in her care.

Kate met her husband, Gary, on a blind date, and they enjoyed many adventures together as they built their home in Interlaken, NY: snowmobiling around Seneca county, tending to the Hunt family property and tree farm, hosting many family get togethers and meals, relaxing at the Hunt family cottage on Seneca Lake, and taking trips to Hawaii and the Bahamas. Their son, George, was born in 1982 in the back of the family Mercedes on the way to the hospital, and daughter, Mary, was born in 1985.

After the birth of her children, "Miss Kate" operated Evergreen Acres Daycare for 35 years. Kate was a steadfast caregiver for countless children in her home, often from infancy into school age. Kate’s training as a nurse, combined with her compassionate and nurturing spirit, provided a warm and loving environment not only for her own children, but for many families in the South Seneca community.

Kate’s dedication to caring for others was a part of every endeavor of her life: she was a staunch advocate for her children’s education, a patient study partner, a soccer mom, an active participant in the Falcon Players drama department (organizing the catering of meals that fed many cast and crew members), a first rate back scratcher, an exceptional whistler, an unparalleled cook and pie maker (the latter a trait that she passed onto both her children), loving caretaker of numerous family pets, welcoming host of many family holiday meals, and friendly confidante for all of her family and friends. Kate was a cancer survivor. She was always just a quick phone call away for medical advice, to confer about a recipe, or to just listen with empathy and patience.

In her later years, Kate was an enthusiastic member of the Harmony Falls a cappella choral group, the Interlaken Historical Society, Interlaken Public library, and took great pride in running Evergreen Acres Plantation Christmas tree farm with Gary. Kate was a devoted grandmother, finding great joy in caring for her three grandchildren from birth. Kate loved growing and arranging flowers, collecting small, beautiful trinkets, and enjoying Trimmer’s ice cream.

Kate’s boundless warmth, compassion and humor defined her and touched many lives. She sought to always lift up those around her through her patient care and love, and with her signature catchphrase “Everything will be alright”. She was a pillar of the community and her family, and she will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.

Kate is survived by her husband of 44 years, Gary; children George (April) Hunt and Mary (Tyler Bowers) Hunt; grandchildren Cheyanne and Jamison Hunt, and Ailish Bowhunters; brothers Carl (Gail) Outhouse, Mark (Ginni) Clark, and Todd Clark; many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members; numerous friends in the community; countless children that grew up under her care, and her beloved canine companion, Tula.

She is predeceased by her parents Richard and Betty; in-laws Howard and Sara Hunt; older brother Richard Clark; beloved sister-in-law Linda Hunt Hynick; and good friend Beverly Hancox.

Kate’s family would like to say thank you to the staff at Seneca Lake Terrace in Geneva, NY for taking such good care of Kate in her final months, as well as the countless family and friends in the community that have helped support both Gary and Kate in the last few years. As you celebrate with family and friends this holiday season, remember Kate with fondness and love, and take care of those around you.
