Charles A. "Chuck" Burroughs, age 83, long-time resident of Shaw Road, passed away peacefully at his residence on February 27, 2025, following several years of declining health, and most recently with in-home hospice. Chuck was born in Seneca Falls on December 10, 1941, a son of the late Frank and Inez Burroughs and he proudly served in the United States Army, embodying commitment and dedication throughout his military service. As a heavy equipment operator, Chuck spent his career working for the New York State DoT, contributing his skills in both Newark and Canandaigua regions. A respected member of his community, he was also a life member of the Lodi Fire Department, serving as both a fireman and fire police, a role in which he found great pride. Known for his witty, friendly, and outgoing personality, Chuck touched the lives of many. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed decades of camping activities that allowed him to cherish nature and create lasting memories with family and friends.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, June, and his children: Tonya Burroughs (Dana Swick) of Trumansburg; Charles A. (Nan) Burroughs Jr. of Walden, NY; his grandchildren; Carissa (Mike) St. Thomas of Clyde, Kyle (Leah) West of Interlaken, Summer Acker of Trumansburg, Brandon (Bethany) Acker of Clyde, and Tyler Acker of Ovid. He is also survived by his brother William (Pam) Burroughs of Auburn, and sister Phyllis Daddabbo of Auburn, bothers in law, George (Bev) Courtwright and Chester Courtwright of Lodi and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson Travis West, and several siblings.
Visitation will be held at Covert Funeral Home, located at 7199 Main St, Ovid, NY 14521, on March 4, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 10:00am, prayers of committal with military honors will follow at West Lodi Cemetery.
