Cynthia J. (Hughes) Myers

OVID-Cynthia Jean Myers, age 76, of State Route 96A, died on May 6th as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on May 1, 2024.

Cindy was born October 10, 1947, in Rochester, NY, a daughter of the late Stuart and Dorothy (nee Finzer) Hughes.  She moved with her family to Illinois in the early 1950’s. She graduated from Yorkville High School in 1965 and was a 1969 graduate of Northern Illinois University, majoring in Business Education. Cindy used her business degree working in banking institutions, law firms, and her own bookkeeping business.

Cindy was married Lynn H. Leifheit in 1969, and following his untimely death in 1976, she adopted a baby boy, Joshua in 1977. Not long after, she was married to John N. Myers, and they made their home in Ovid. Cindy enjoyed needlework, most notably creating quilts, and those who have received one of her beautiful quilts will always cherish them.  She enjoyed baking, creating dozens of Christmas cookies each year to share with friends and family. Cindy and John were faithful members of Christ Lutheran Church in Sheldrake, where she served as treasurer for many years. Cindy's love of Cayuga Lake, camping at Spruce Row and summers spent with family held a special place in her heart.

Cindy is survived by her husband, John N. Myers; her siblings Barb McCoy, Judy Ellis, David (Rosina) Hughes, Casey (Debbie) Hughes and Tom Hughes.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, her brother-in-law William Myers, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lynn H. Leifheit, her son, Joshua Myers in 1998, her brothers-in-law, John Ellis and Jay McCoy, and a nephew, Brandon Hughes.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Christ Lutheran Church, 7966 County Road 153 in Sheldrake, followed by a reception at the Ovid Fire Department.  In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the church in her memory.
