D. Close Gloria

Gloria D. Close, 84, of Lodi, died at Beechtree Care Center on Friday, April 14, 2017.

In keeping with Gloria❜s wishes, services will be private for family. The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Gloria❜s memory to kindly consider the American Legion Post 770, PO Box 456, Trumansburg, NY 14886 or the Lodi Fire Department, PO Box 299, Lodi, NY 14860.

Gloria was born in Ithaca on July 18, 1932, a daughter of the late Layton and Mabel (Giles) Dawes. She worked as the bookkeeper with her husband and family at Close Oil Company in Lodi until 1989. Gloria volunteered annually at the Lodi Fire Department Clambake selling raffle tickets and always arranged for the lake gathering at the cottage afterwards. She also was a member of the Trumansburg American Legion Post 770 Ladies Auxiliary and served as secretary for the Trumansburg Fair for over 40 years. An avid card player, Gloria enjoyed playing euchre, scat, and many other card games with family and friends. She loved NASCAR, rooting for Harry Gant in the 1980❜s and 1990❜s, and Kasey Kahne in recent years.

She is survived by a daughter, Darlene J. Ahouse; a son, David (Sue) Close; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Greg Markel) Close, Kevin Close, Stephen Ahouse, Jill Ahouse, and Kari (Colin Rosten) Ahouse; two great grandchildren, Dasmer and Karson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Robert ‶Bob″ Close in 2010; and sister and brother in law, Gertrude and Arthur Millspaugh.
