David A. Jones

David A. Jones Sr., age 85, passed away at his home in Lodi on Thursday, December 7, 2023 after several months of failing health.

The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.  A funeral service will then take place at 1:00pm, with prayers of committal at West Lodi Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in David’s memory to the James Jones Scholarship c/o South Seneca Central School, 7263 Main Street, Ovid, NY 14521.

David was born in Romulus on June 29, 1938, a son of the late John and Geraldine (nee Carroll) Jones.  He was a graduate of Interlaken High School and was married to Winnie Menter on September 7, 1957. Together with his wife and children, he was a cash crop and beef farmer in the Lodi-Covert-Ovid area. In addition to his lifelong commitment to the farm, he was a bus driver for South Seneca Schools, truck driver and charter bus driver. A life member of the Interlaken Grange #160, South Seneca Sportsmen’s Club and past president of the Seneca County Farm Bureau and it’s Young Farmers program. He and Winnie enjoyed blue grass festivals, motorcycle and snowmobile trips and wintered in Williston, FL for over 25 years.

David is survived by his wife of 66 years, Winnie; his children, David (Nancy) Jones of Interlaken, Linda (Vincent) Laper of Ellicot City, MD, and Marilu Gordon of Lakeland, FL; his grandchildren, Casey, Tara, Katy, Johnathan, Emily, Heather, Shelly, Mathew, Sarah, Hannah, Michael, Courtney, Wesley, Amanda, Patrick, Suzi and Zac; 17 great grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Lothers of Lancaster, SC and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his children, James Jones and Debbie Wech and by his siblings, Clara Simmons, Ellen and Paul Jones.
