David Duryea Ostrander 77, Passed on May 13, 2024 at Huntington Living Center in Waterloo NY. Born on February 3, 1947, to Gerald Duryea and Dorothy Jean Ostrander. Dave was one of a kind. He graduated from Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls and entered an almost 30-year career as a Respiratory Therapist. Many times, it was Dave’s intervention that saved a patient’s life. He also had a love affair with anything with an engine. He repaired everything from cars and trucks to marine engines and his many motorcycles. People were never disappointed. He even tried to build a one-person helicopter, but that was Dave. Many will remember the years he and his family lived on Lower Lake Road. Growing up there he never forgot his love of Cayuga Lake, so he opened the Cove Restaurant and Marina. For years he was the best spot on the North End of the lake for your bait at 4:00am, a meal, a beer and the latest news of what fish were biting and where to catch the “Big One”. He was proud of the many boaters in distress he had saved as well as the young man whose heart stopped when he fell through the ice and only lived because Dave was on the scene and could revive him. In his later years Dave retired to Ovid with the love of his life Sharon Consaul and his 8 cats. When she passed so did a great part of his heart. Dave was always a friend to anyone in need. He will be sadly missed.
Dave is survived by his sister Linda Lee Stephens of Murphys,CA and Carol Ann Boskin of Albany, NY.
At Dave’s request there will be no memorial service. If you would like to remember him then do an anonymous good deed today, for someone who can’t repay you. Dave would like that. If you would like to give a gift, please remember Beverly Animal Shelter in Waterloo.
