Douglas J. Lynch, age 58, lifetime resident of the Ovid area, died unexpectedly at Geneva General Hospital on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 following a sudden onset illness.
Doug was born in Montour Falls on March 15, 1964, the only son of the late Donald J. and Rosemary Frutchey Lynch. He graduated from South Seneca High School and spent a career in state service, working at Willard Psychiatric Center, FLDDSO, George Junior Republic, NYS DOT, South Seneca Central School and finally retiring as a corrections officer from Five Points Correctional Facility in August 2021. Dougie was a giant kid at heart, he loved his family, friends and never turned down a party invitation. He was an avid golfer and basketball fan, and when Dougie was in the room, there was always laughter, hugs and lotsa smiles.
He is survived by his partner, Laura Dunham-Reff of Willard, his children; Courtney (Ben) Mott of Lodi, Brad (Jenifer) Lynch of Ovid, his grandchildren; Madison and Mason Mott, Mila and Silas Lynch, his sisters; Teena (Robert) Irvin of Newfield, and Jackie Lynch of Lodi, a large extended family and a host of very close friends.
Prayers of committal will be held privately at Holy Cross Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Bonavista Golf Course on Monday, May 16, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00pm to celebrate Doug’s life and legacy.
