Beatrice (nee Doane) Terry Greenwalt, famously known as ‶Bea″, age 89, died on Wednesday, November 9, 2016.
The family will receive their friends and relatives in remembrance of the joys they have shared in the life of Beatrice on Monday, November 14, 2016 beginning at 12:30pm at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid. An Auxiliary to the Sons ceremony will be at 1:45pm and the funeral service will commence at 2:00pm, with Rev. Rob Mellgard of the Ovid Federated Church officiating. Prayers of committal will be held at Ovid Union Cemetery. Instead of flowers, remember Bea with a smile, and kindly consider a donation to: Auxiliary #72 Sons of Union Veterans of Civil War, 3191 Co. She was born Nov. 20, 1926 in Ovid, a daughter of the late George W. and Sadie (Coleman) Doane. On Sept. 12, 1942 she married her husband Earl Stout Terry (son of Grover and Bessie (nee Stout) Terry who died on October 13, 1976. To this union of 34 years 6 children were born, living in Ovid for over 50 years. Bea and Earl together for many years owned and operated Terry❜s Tastee Freez on Route 96 in Ovid. On June 21, 1980 she married secondly to Richard L. Greenwalt, moving to Alliance Ohio. Her love of family always sustained her of the distance between them and her return to Ovid in 2008 reunited her again with family and friends.
She was an active life member in the Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, member of Auxiliary #72 of Ovid, Past Department President of New York, Past National President 1989-1990, National Auxiliary Historian, Department of NY Historian and Department of Ohio Historian.
The highlight of her life as National President was placing a wreath at Lincoln❜s Tomb in Washington DC with a full Military Honor Guard, a uniformed escort carrying her wreath, placing her hand on her Military escort❜s arm as he assisted her up the many monument steps as the Military Band played. As an Auxiliary member she was presented with the highest honor that the Sons of Union Veterans bestow - The ‶Dr. Mary E. Walker Award″ for service and support to the Sons of Union Veterans.
Her love of painting ceramics left many gifts of love in homes of her family and friends of the organization in many states.
As a genealogist she traced and compiled books of history of her Doane and Reinheimer ancestors, history of Seneca County area and her husbands Terry -Wilson - Stout ancestors who settled the land here in Ovid, Romulus and Interlaken. She was a charter member of the Seneca Falls Genealogy Society. Upon moving to Alliance, Ohio in 1980 she immediately formed a Genealogy society called ‶TAGS″ and become the researcher and editor of TAGS newsletters.
Also many years as member of Ovid Grange No 199 and Mile Branch Grange in Alliance, Ohio. She was active in the Ladies Shrine (‶Kadish Klowns″ unit) entertaining handicapped children at the Shrine Hospital. She was a member of the Masonic Order as a Knights Templar Lady and held offices in the Order of the Masonic Amaranth. She was a member of the Ovid Federated Church joining at the age of 12 in the former Ovid Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her children David Earl Terry of Ovid, Betty Jane Baker of Interlaken, James Joseph (Patricia) Terry of Lawton, OK and Beatrice Kay (Joseph) Marrone of Ovid. 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 12 great, great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews will also miss their beloved ‶Aunt Bea″.
She was predeceased by her daughter Sandra Lee Terry who left this earth at the young age of 15, her son William Leroy Terry, grandchildren Robyn Jo Terry, Edson W. Baker Jr, Brenda Lee Baker Niver, Christopher Kendall and Kenneth Carlton, brothers George and Charles Doane, sister Shirley Doane Ruggles, her daughter in law Marge Terry and son in law Edson W. Baker and husband Richard L. Greenwalt who passed in 2015.
