Gerald E. Slocum, of Interlaken, passed away unexpectedly at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the age of 86. Gerald was born in Mecklenburg, NY on September 29, 1927, a son of the late Earl and Lillian (Miller) Slocum. He was an Aviation Electrician’s Mate Third Class V6 USNR in the United States Navy and then a long-time employee of New York State Electric and Gas where he was a chief lineman, retiring in 1985. He was a 65-year member of the Masons, belonging to the King Hiram Lodge, No. 784 F. & A. Masons, Newfield, NY. Gerald was a dedicated sportsman and eagerly looked forward to the season each year. Gerald loved his home and enjoyed working on his lawn and garden. Gerald was preceded in death by Catherine (Townsend) Slocum (his wife of 56 years) on March 17, 2011, his son, Gary Michael on March 6, 1961, brothers, Donald and Earl and sisters Irene, Vivian, Charlien, and Marjorie.
He is survived by his sister, Virginia Sills, of Burdett, NY, sister-inlaws, Ruth Slocum, of Rochester, NY and Ann Slocum of Clinton, NY, several nieces and nephews and their families.
The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main St, Ovid, NY. In keeping with Gerald's wishes, no services have been scheduled. Gerald will rest alongside his wife and son in the Lakeview Cemetery in Interlaken, NY.
