Helen E. Halsey, age 69, longtime resident of First Street, died at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester on Tuesday, March 13, 2018.
Helen was born in Seneca Falls on September 28, 1948, a daughter of the late Fayette and Dorothy (Keavney) Carpenter. She graduated from Ovid Central School, and had worked at Willard Psychiatric Center as a therapy aide. She continued her state service as a direct support assistant at the FLDDSO home in Ovid, where she lovingly cared for the residents. Helen had very strong and loving ties to her family, children and grandchildren. Her home was the gathering place for many family events. Her time and energy were devoted to making sure that the family did things together for holidays and birthdays.
She is survived by her sons, Ken (Sheena) Halsey and John Halsey all of Willard and her beloved grandchildren, Brianna, Gage, Jenika and Kenny; her siblings, Fran Harris of Ovid, Sandy Jager of Varick, Steve Carpenter of Geneva and John (Kay) Carpenter of Willard and many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Marge Terry.
At her request, a summertime gathering is being planned for family and friends to attend and share memories of Helen in a Celebration of Life. Details will be announced by Covert Funeral Home of Ovid, as those plans are finalized.
