E. Hurd Josephine

JOSEPHINE E. HURD, age 100, former longtime resident East Seneca Street, passed away at Huntington Living Center on Monday, November 13, 2017.

The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street, Ovid. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Jo❜s memory to the Lodi Whittier Library or the Lodi Fire Department.

Jo was born February 12, 1917 to Carl and Stella (Miller) Nelson in Elkland, PA. She was employed by the John L. Sheen clothing store in Elkland, PA for many years. She and her husband moved to Lodi from Pennsylvania in 1942. While residing in Lodi, she was employed as the bookkeeper for the Porter-Wright Lumber Co., and along with her husband, owned and operated Hurds Hardware & Crafts in Lodi for 50 years, retiring in 1998. Jo was also employed by the US Postal Service for 42 years, retiring in 1994.

Mrs. Hurd is survived by a son, Tom and daughter, JoAnn (Jerry) Westervelt of Lodi; a sister in law, Dianne Nelson of Knoxville, PA; her grandchildren, Jeff (Cheryl) Hurd of Canandaigua, Michelle Hurd of Elmira, and Josh (Lori) Westervelt of Geneva; great grandsons, Adam and Alex Hurd, Ethan and Blake Westervelt, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William, who passed away on January 31, 2005, her parents; and brothers, Lester and Richard.
