William E. ‶Bill″ Harris, age 84, lifelong resident of Ovid passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 16, 2017.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street, Ovid. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Prayers of committal will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to Lifetime Care Hospice, 800 West Miller Street, Suite #6, Newark, NY 14513 or the Ovid Fire Department, PO Box D, Ovid, NY 14521.

Bill was born in Seneca Falls on August 3, 1932, a son of the late Lyman and Martha (Parish) Harris. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. Bill attended Morrisville College and briefly sold cars in Seneca Falls before taking a position at Willard Psychiatric Center as a nurse. While employed there, Bill obtained his Bachelor❜s Degree in nursing from University of Rochester and obtained his Master❜s in Nursing from CW Post. After 32 years at Willard Psychiatric Center, Bill retired and enjoyed wintering in Florida.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post in Ovid, the American Legion Post in Ovid, and the Ovid Fire Department. Bill loved ‶his″ Cayuga Lake and proudly made his home there. A proud Papa, Bill spent much of his time with his grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew, attending school concerts, sporting events, and watching them both succeed as adults.

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Fran Harris; a daughter, Lisa (Marty) Brewer; two grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Brewer; two cousins, Audrey (Bill) Schramm and Linda Riolo; sisters and brothers in law, Sandra Jager, Steve Carpenter, Helen Halsey, and John (Kay) Carpenter; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Billy Harris; and a sister, Jane Abbott.
