E. Delong Winfield

Winfield E. Delong, age 84 of Interlaken, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the funeral home. Prayers of committal with military honors will be held at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus.

Winfield was born in Ovid, a son of the late Frank and Cecil (Hilkert) Delong. At the age of 20, he joined the US Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict the 759th tank battalion . He had been a life member of the American Legion Post #463 in Ovid, and a former member of VFW Post #6200. He worked as a mechanic for most of his life, at Greenwood❜s in Waterloo, Egg-It of Interlaken and eventually retired from Papetti's high grade egg where he had been a truck driver. He was a devoted husband, father,grandfather and great grand father.and loved being surrounded by his large family. Most times you could see him teaching one of his grand kids something new, or tinkering around home on one of his many tractors sometimes just to hear them run.

He is survived by his children; Cindy Delong of Waterloo, Sherrie Finch of Canandaigua, Lawanda Delong of Interlaken, Donna (Richard) Dickens of Ovid, and Adam Delong of Interlaken, nine grandchildren; Frank (Bobbi Jo) VanHouten III, Ashley Finch and John Finch III, Amanda, Anna and Amelia Dickens, Austin, Collin and Blake Delong and three great grandchildren; David, Joseph and Brianne VanHouten, his siblings; Frank Delong, Frances Steen and Bernice Coleman. Winfield was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Beverly in January ; and by his siblings; Marcus, Clyde, James, Guy Delong, Beatrice Rosecrans, Blanche Christensen and Bertha Ferris.
