Edward R. “Sonny” McDonald, age 88, longtime resident of Ovid, died at the Hildrebrandt Hospice in Rochester.
Sonny was born in Willard on July 20, 1933, a son of the late Edward and Ella Karlsen McDonald. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1951 to 1954, and then served from 1965 to 1980. Upon his Navy retirement, he returned to Ovid to work at Seneca Army Depot. Sonny was a member of the VFW and American Legion Posts in Ovid.
He is survived by his children, Edward T. “Skip” McDonald of Rochester, Barry (Gresa Gostivari) McDonald of Jacksonville, Florida and Joanne (Troy) Yaeger and her children, Alexis and Olivia of Ithaca; and niece & nephew Cindy & Pat Parish. He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Joan in 1991, and by his wife, Gloria in 2019; and by his sister, Betty Parish in 2011.
