Elsie M. Spencer of Auburn, formerly of Ovid passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 83. Born on January 21, 1942, in Seneca Falls, she embodied warmth and compassion throughout her life.
For many years, Elsie dedicated herself to being a home health care provider in the Ovid area. She was particularly proud of her work caring for the elderly, a testament to her deeply nurturing spirit. Her gentle touch and kind heart made a significant difference in the lives of those she served, offering comfort and companionship to many. Elsie was also known for being an outstanding baker with many neighbors and friends looking forward to receiving her famous peanut butter fudge during the holiday season.
Music filled Elsie’s life with joy; she had an enduring love for country music, especially the tunes of Johnny Cash, often filling her home with melodies that resonated with her soul. She also enjoyed the beauty of flower gardening and cherished her plants. Elsie's love for clams was second to none and she recently enjoyed a clam dinner for her most recent birthday. Above all, Elsie cared deeply for her family, laughed often, and smiled easily.
She is survived by her sons, John (Fareena) Spencer and Ron (Jessica Erin) Spencer; grandchildren, Francis, Ashley, Sarah, and Ronald Spencer, as well as Michell (Jeff Austin) Edkin, Tiffany (Chris) Panchu, and Braeden; great-grandchildren, Liam, Samaira, Raya, and Kalon;. and many nieces and nephews.
Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Clara McLaughlin; husband, Francis Spencer; two sons, Thomas Edkin and Harry Spencer; two granddaughters, Mary Louise Spencer and Nichole Edkin; and her beloved siblings, Leon, John "Jack," Robert, James, Daniel, Patrick, and Jean.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00pm on February 13, 2025 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street, Ovid. A funeral service will immediately follow at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Elsie's memory to kindly consider the Ovid Fire Relief Fund, c/o Community Bank NA, PO Box 389, Ovid, New York 14521.
