Eva J. Van Gelder, age 84 of Lodi-Covert Townline Road, passed away at Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 4:00pm on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid. Prayers of committal will be held at 11:00am on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus.
Eva was born in Marion, NY on December 3, 1936, a daughter of the late George and Millie Crayton. She was a graduate of Marion High School and then worked as a bus driver at South Seneca Schools for many years. In addition to bus driving, she was a long haul truck driver and for the past 25 years, she was a dedicated Amish driver. Together with her husband, Clint “Sonny”, they wintered in Homosassa, FL for many years and she still maintained their home there.
She is survived by her children, Penny Williamson (Jackie Lance) of Califon, NJ, James “Ducky” Matthys of Interlaken and Jeffrey Matthys of Jacksonville, NY; her grandchildren, Will, Josh, Shane, Danielle, Matthew, Jackie, Courtney and several great grandchildren; her sister, Gerry Dekdebrun of Marion and her daughters, Rhonda and Ginger (Bob); her stepchildren, Chris, Peggy & Larry, Family Friend Norm, Bobby, David, Linda & Ronnie. Her beloved dog, Bella.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Clint; her daughters, Cheryl Whitcomb and Debbie Watkins and stepson David Lancaster.
