F. Brewer Sarah

d. June 22, 2015

Sarah F. Brewer, age 90, longtime resident of Ovid, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Seneca Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo, where she had been a resident since October 2014.

Sarah was born on March 23, 1925 at a logging camp in Willow, Oregon, the 10th of 11 children born to the late Joseph Joshua and Lynnie Mae (Wafford) Reynolds. At the age of 4, her family returned their Arkansas farm, where she learned the value of hard work, picking cotton for a penny a pound. Upon graduation from Sheridan High School in 1943, Sarah went to work at the Pine Bluff Arsenal (Ark) in support of the war effort. It was here that she met her future husband (Myron) at a bus stop. It is purported that Myron bought Sarah her first pair of shoes, since she would need them for those cold northern winters

Upon moving to Ovid in 1946 Sarah worked on the family farm with Myron. In 1949 she started a long career of state service, working at Willard Psychiatric Center (WPC), Sampson and Newark State Schools. Sarah retired from WPC in 1980 after 31 years of service. Sarah was an active member of the Ovid Federated Church and participated in the many activities of the church, and she had also been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her flower gardens, the envy of many, were spectacular. She took great pride in home canning and making jams and pickles. Sarah was very practical, always engaged common sense and good planning. She enjoyed her walks on Main Street every day, with a quick step and bright smile; her greetings were always fun and often enlightening. Most of all, Sarah❜s days were highlighted by spending time immersed in the lives of her grandchildren, they truly provided her the greatest joys.

Sarah is survived by her sons; Jim Brewer and Joe (Cindy) Brewer, all of Ovid, her grandchildren; Eric C. (Daniel) Brewer of Orlando, FL, James J. (Sarah) Brewer of Ovid, Caitlin Abra Brewer of Rochester, Abby Joe (Adam) Snell of Hector and Zachary John Myron Brewer of Columbia, SC, her great grandchildren; Shelby Amy Kate Brewer and MacKenzie Brewer.
She was preceded in death by her husband Myron in 1984, her 10 siblings, including Charlie D. Bristol, and by her granddaughter, Amy Brewer in 2013.

The family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid. Interment will be held privately on a later date at Ovid Union Cemetery. Kindly consider a donation in Sarah❜s memory to the Ovid Federated Church, PO Box 375, Ovid, NY 14521, in lieu of flowers.
