Speedy was born on June 16, 1953 to the late Charles and Isabel (nee Lamphier) Manning. Speedy graduated from South Seneca Central School in 1972. He was an outstanding baseball player and pitched a no-hitter that we all still talk about. He also played football and basketball in school. He followed in the footsteps of his brother Bruce, and proudly served his country in the US Army from 1978 to 1980. His favorite pastime was playing golf with his friends and brother Lance. When he was young, he liked outdoor sports like fishing and hunting. He used to share humorous stories about hunting with his dad and friends.
Speedy was a friend to everyone and had a big heart. He enjoyed his nieces Ericka, Courtney, and Heather and nephew Collin when they were little. He especially loved his nephew Ryan who adored Uncle Speedy. Ryan caught his first fish with Uncle Speedy’s help. After moving to North Carolina, he enjoyed watching football games with brother-in-law Bob and was a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan. He and sister Vickie spent hours watching old movies together and he especially liked the Westerns.
Speedy is survived by his siblings, Vickie (Robert) Willson, Lance Manning (Jackie), and Charles William (Sharon) Manning; a daughter, Holly (Ethan) Westmoore; and grandson Hayden. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Bruce, and Collin “Sid” Manning.
He will be missed by all his family and friends.
