G. Horton Emma

d. January 6, 2018

Emma Grace Horton, age 92, of 2872 State Route 96A, went with Jesus on January 6, 2018.

Born in Harrington, Delaware on September 15, 1925, to the parents, Harvey and Ethel (Andrews) Bradley. At the age of 16 she married Edwin Brown. They had two sons, Rodney, who sadly died two weeks after birth and Roger Brown, the marriage ended after 6 years. Later, Emma fell in love with Thayer Swain, also of Delaware. They married, moved to Florida and bought undeveloped land in Pinellas Park. They worked hard to clear the land while working other jobs to save money. They built a home and grocery store. They did well, and were able to expand, building cottages to rent. They had four children, Carol, Jacob, Julia and Cindy. In 1957 Thayer died after a car accident. Life was hard with four younger children (2 of them babies), but she was strong and coped. Two years later she met and married William Horton of Interlaken, NY, a farmer. She helped him farm, took care of the children and the household. After a few years, they built a store on the farm and Emma added another job to her very busy days, selling everything from furniture to antiques and oddities. Emma truly loved people and they loved her back. To her, everyone was a friend.

She is survived by three daughters, Carol (Chris) Uresti of Interlaken, Julia Billings and Cindy Swain both of Ithaca, and one son, Roger Brown of Mississippi, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter, and her beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Horton; her sons, Rodney Brown and Jacob Swain, and a grandson, Seth Swain; her sisters, Irene and Sylvia Bradley, and Virginia Hackworth; and by two brothers, Wilber and Charles Bradley.

In accordance with Emma❜s wishes, there will be no services.
