Gertrude Steinruck

Gertrude Lois Steinruck, age 94, formerly of Trumansburg, died on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Seneca View Nursing Facility.

The family will be present to receive friends from from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Prayers of committal will be held in Ovid Union Cemetery following the service.

Gertrude was born in Millerton, Pennsylvania on September 11, 1922, a daughter of the late Elisha and Florence (Corwin) Cooper. She began working at Ithaca Hospital on Quarry Street and moved to the Tompkins County Hospital when the hospital moved to Route 96. She continued working there until retiring from the current, Cayuga Medical Center.

Gertrude loved baking both at work and at home for family and friends. An avid reader, Stephen King novels and other horror books were her favorite. She enjoyed all types of animals, especially cats, and enjoyed flower gardening.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Betty Ann) Steinruck of Scranton, PA, William (Maryann) Steinruck of Elizabethtown, KY, and Phillip (Theresa) Steinruck of Romulus; a daughter, Beverly Knapp of Trumansburg; 32 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Cooper of Syracuse. In addition to her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, August L. Steinruck in 1992; an infant daughter, Nancy Steinruck; two sons, Roy and David Steinruck; two brothers, Stephen and Kenneth Cooper; and a sister, Lucille Tompkins.
