J. Farr Herbert

Herbert J. ‶Herbie″ Farr, age 78, of 8576 Farr❜s Lane, died at his home on Friday, October 6, 2017, following a brief illness.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid and prayers of committal will be held at West Lodi Cemetery. All are invited to a reception at the Interlaken Sportmen❜s Club on Tunison Road, which will follow the committal ceremony.

Herbie was born in Waterloo on June 23, 1939, a son of the late Charles ‶Frisky″ and Gertrude (Biddle) Farr. He graduated from Ovid Central School, and in his youth excelled as a baseball player, with Frisky coaching local and regional teams. He was a heavy equipment operator for IUOE Local #545 out of Syracuse, and traveled much of New York on job sites. Along with his father and brother, they owned and operated Farr Brothers Construction. Never one to miss an opportunity to socialize, he was a member of the Interlaken Sportsmen❜s Club, Montour Falls Moose Club, Watkins Glen Elks Lodge, Eagles Club of Okeechobee and the American Legion in Cottonwood, AZ. He was known to hit a few casinos in his travels, and there are some amazing stories of road trips to Florida with his buddies. Herbie was an avid outdoorsman, and also became a pretty good golfer. In the past few years, he and his wife Robin,(whom he married in Las Vegas on March 17, 1999) had ‶Best Chicken by Farr″. They catered events and parties throughout the area. Many happy winters were spent in Okeechobee, where his circle of friends expanded even more for those months.

He is survived by his loving wife, Robin; his children, Herbert ‶Hub″ (Gretchen) Farr Jr. of Darien Center, NY, Thomas Farr of Lodi, Debra Farr of Okeechobee, FL; his grandchildren, Jesse Farr of Colorado, Shane Farr of Lodi and Cody Farr of Waterloo; a brother, Harry (Alice Detrick) Farr of Lodi; his mother in law, Mickey Skinner; brothers in law, Steve (Melissa) Porter of Mississippi and Rod Porter of Interlaken, and his 4 legged pal, Mickey Zoom. Herbie was preceded in death by a brother in law, Tom Porter and niece, Lisa Farr-Felice.
