J. Filipeck John

d. March 11, 2015

John J. FIlipeck, age 91, longtime resident of Main Street in Ovid, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday.

John was born in Pinconning, MI on September 6, 1923, a son of the late George and Mary Filipeck. He left school after the 8th grade to deliver milk by horse and buggy to help sustain his large family. Upon completion of his basic training at Sampson, he proudly served in the US Navy during WWII from 1942-1946. John drove the Hell Drivers, a travelling stunt show, from 1947-1952, doing more than 120 shows a year at various fair and exhibits throughout the country. He made his home in Ovid, and operated Filipeck❜s Uphostering, along side his wife Dorothy, for more than 50 years. In addition, he was a skin diver and an avid bowler. As a Life Member of the VFW Post #6200, John was still serving his fellow veterans on the color guard, marching in parades, and by placing flags at the cemeteries for Memorial Day.

He is survived by his daughter, Darlene Lamb of Sandwich, IL, a brother, Joseph Filipeck of Michigan, his wife❜s family and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 2013 and by his five sisters.

Prayers of committal and military honors will be held at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 18, 2015.
