Maxine was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 29, 1926, a daughter of the late Kenneth G. and Dorothy (Burroughs) VanNostrand. At a young age, her family moved to Ovid, and she graduated from Ovid High School. She was married to Lloyd Kenyon on June 14, 1947, after his return from Germany during WWII, and she worked at Sampson State Hospital as a secretary, during which time she was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Interlaken Chapter. Once their family had started with sons, Larry and Greg, Lloyd and Maxine successfully operated Kenyon Florist and Greenhouse. After many years of hard work and long days, they retired the floral business in the mid 1970’s. At that point, they were able to travel extensively, and always attended the military reunions of the 82nd Combat Battalion throughout the US. Maxine was also the tax collector for the Town of Ovid for the many years that they operated the floral business, her book keeping skills and available hours made a natural fit for that job as well. Affectionately known by her family and friends as “Mick”, many will remember her love of the St. Louis Cardinals, dating back to the 1960’s, making trips to see their games in person, and rooting them on from home as well. Always a proud supporter of South Seneca Falcons, Mick was often found at various sporting events. Her sense of Falcon pride was re-kindled with the birth of her 3 grandchildren, she had a new lease on life and a spring in her step across the playing fields, cheering on the next generation of Kenyon athletes.
Mick is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Lloyd; her son and daughter in law, Greg and Mary, and her adored grandchildren, Mackenzie, Matthew and Allison; a brother, William VanNostrand of Newark, a sister in law, Wanda VanNostrand of Ft. Myers, FL and their families. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry “Champ” Kenyon in 2012, and by a brother, Jack VanNostrand.
