William J. ‶Murph″ Murphy, age 79, formally from Willard, NY, passed away on August 14, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving daughters after a valiant 26-year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig❜s disease.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2018, at the funeral home. Prayers of committal will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Ovid. A reception will then be held at the American Legion Post 463 in Ovid.

Bill was born November 1, 1938, in the Bronx to the late George Murphy and Ethel LaCour Murphy. He was a graduate of Ovid Central School and was retired as an Assistant Recreational Therapist at Willard Psychiatric Center. Murph was an avid sports man, who loved his NY Yankees, NY Giants and the Fighting Irish. However, golf was his biggest passion, where he excelled. But most importantly, his pride came from his only grandchild, whom he adored.
Bill is survived by his three daughters, Christine Murphy of Ovid, NY, Carol Murphy of Orlando, FL, and Kelly Murphy of Altamonte Springs, FL; one grandson, Zachary Murphy Wagoner of Orlando, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack and George, and his loving wife, Kay, in 1993.
