James "Ducky" Matthys

James “Ducky” Matthys, age 59 of Lodi-Covert Townline Road, passed away at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca on
Friday, May 17, 2024.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 25, 2024 from 3:00-6:00 pm at the homestead, 9129 Lodi-Covert Town Line Road, Interlaken, NY 14847. In lieu of flowers, please bring all your Ducky stories to share.

Jim was born in Newark, NY on July 16, 1964, a son of the late Elmer and Eva (Crayton) Matthys. He was a long-haul truck driver who enjoyed his cross-country trips and peanut butter and salami sandwiches. He later spent time as a dedicated Amish driver. Jim’s greatest past time was spending time with his grandchildren and taking them on truck rides.

He is survived by his children, Danielle (Nigel), Hannah (Luis) and Tucker (Lisa); his grandchildren, Issac, Leo and George, Kayla, Mackenzie and Bella; nieces and nephews, Shane (Kelsey), Will (Colleen), Josh (Eliza), Matthew, Jackie and Courtney; his great nieces and nephews, Shawna Lin, Chad, Isabella, Ellie, Johnathon, and Vanessa; sister, Penny (Jackie Lance) Williamson; brothers in law, Arthur (Kim) James Covert III and Kenny (Naomi) Covert; additional nieces and nephews, Phalyn, Pheobe, Konner and Ava, Alivia and Avery; his beloved dog, Bella.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Clinton Van Gelder; and siblings, Jeffrey Matthys, Cheryl Whitcomb and Debbie Watkins.
