John "Jack" W. Christensen

In loving memory of John “Jack” Christensen...who passed away at Geneva Living Center on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

Jack was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He leaves behind his beloved wife, Emma, of 68 years and their children Candace (David) Starling, Cheryl (Doug) Gentile, Susan (Dale Sowards) Beardslee; along with grandchildren Zachary Starling, Jeff Starling, Taylor (Ridge) Cannon, Anna Gentile, Shannon (Davin) Erickson, Danny (Misha) Beardslee, David (Brooke) Beardslee; and great-grandchildren Ksenia, Isabelle, Davin, Emma Erickson; Freya Beardslee; a brother Carl (Gail); sisters-in-law Susan Christensen and Mary Hausner; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was born in Waterloo, New York on February 21, 1934 to William and Catherine Christensen.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul and Richard, and brother-in-law Walter Hausner.

Jack graduated from Ovid Central School in 1951 and joined the US Army the following year.  He honorably served as a member of the Army Security Agency during the Korean War.  Jack is a life member of the Ovid VFW Post 6200 and the South Seneca Sportsman Club.  He was an employee of the Sampson State Park system for many years, but farming was his passion which he practiced for more than fifty years.

Jack was very supportive of the community, especially the South Seneca Central School sports program.  He and his wife were avid followers and frequent attendees to all of the various sports’ games.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, June 19th, 2021 by Fr. Bernard Maloney OFMCap at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ovid.  Prayers of committal with military honors will then follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Jack’s memory to: Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish, Holy Cross Church, PO Box 403, Interlaken, NY  14847 or South Seneca Ambulance Corps, 2011 State Route 96A, Ovid, New York, 14521.
