Jorge A. Vazquez

Jorge A. Vazquez, age 58, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 26, 2024.

Jorge was born on October 26, 1965, in Salinas, Puerto Rico. He was the only son of the late Jorge A. Vazquez and Luz A. Lay Arroyo. In the early 1970s, the family moved to the Ovid area, and Jorge graduated from South Seneca High School in 1984. He then embarked on a 36-year career as a motor vehicle operator at Willard Psychiatric Center, retiring from the Department of Corrections in 2020. Jorge loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker.

He is survived by his children: Jamie Vazquez of Seneca Falls, Jorge A. Vazquez III of Lodi, and Jonathan Vazquez of Utica; his beloved granddaughter, Leila Vazquez; his siblings: Areli (Sean) Schermerhorn of Syracuse, Leira (Mark) Stephany of Watkins Glen, and Luz “Yiya” (Daniel) Welch of Cicero; his cherished pets, Robenzo and Lucy; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A gathering will follow at the American Legion Post #463, 2083 West Seneca St. in Ovid, NY.
