Laura L. Keeler, age 93, of Ovid, passed away at Geneva Living Center on Wednesday, March 11, 2015.
The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street, Ovid. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30am on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ovid. Prayers of Committal will be held privately at Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring. Laura was born in Niagara Falls on October 6, 1921, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Myrtle (Lowe) McHenry. She graduated from high school in Groton, and then graduated from the Willard School of Nursing, where she met her future husband, John “Buddy” Keeler. She then worked at Willard as registered nurse for 31 years, retiring in 1976.
Laura was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church. Laura had a very strong love for animals, big and small. The farm on Kinne Road was home for up to seventeen horses and various other pets at one time. Together, Buddy and Laura enjoyed their son’s cottage on Seneca Lake, and winters in Florida, after their retirement. Laura was an avid cat lover, and many strays found their home on Kinne Road.
Laura is survived by her sons; Jimmy (Judy) Fairbanks of Seneca Falls, John (Joni) Keeler of Stanley and Joseph (Kim) Keeler of Romulus; three grandchildren, Shannon (Tony) Marcuccilli, Shawn (Amy) Keeler, and Corie (Ryan) Smith; two step grandchildren, Tanya (Jim) Nellis and Andy McDonald; four great grandchildren, Mariah, Trista, Cameron, and Quinn; and two great grandchildren, Alex and Brennan; a sister, Jeanette Jung of Seminole, FL; a half brother, William (Joanie) McHenry of Connecticut and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. “Buddy” Keeler in 2014 and by a half sister, Gladys Hailey.
