Larry E. Peterson

November 4, 1944 — November 12, 2023

Waterloo

Larry E. Peterson, age 79, of 23 Indian Hills Drive, died peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Geneva General Hospital, following an extended illness.

Larry was born in Pine City, Minnesota on November 4, 1944, a son of the late Harold and Lorraine (nee Olsen) Peterson with brother Leslie and sister Dorothy. He obtained his master’s degree and worked at Seneca Army Depot for almost 30 years, retiring as the Director of Information Management. He was married to Diane Graber on October 12, 1968, and they made their home on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake in Varick for 45 years. Larry was a life member of Varick Fire Department and transferred to Waterloo Fire Department when they retired to Indian Hills. Larry is remembered by those who knew him for his friendly smile and his sense of humor. He loved taking guests out in his boat, taking them water skiing, and playing cards. Pictures of his twin grandsons, who knew him as "Bop," cover his walls. He loved hearing stories of their activities and playing with them when they visited.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane and his son, Jeffrey (Heather) Peterson of Manlius and their sons, Alexander and Zachary; his brother, Leslie Peterson of Palisade, MN and his daughters, Denise (Jeffrey) and Jill (Scott); his brother-in-law, Leon (Cathy) Graber of Ovid and sister-in-law, Ginny Graber of Willard.

The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00am with A Time of Remembrance led by Jeffrey at 11:00am at the funeral home and a Celebration of Life afterwards. Kindly consider a donation to either Varick or Waterloo Fire Departments in Larry’s memory.
