Mildred Leary Bond, age 100, longtime resident of Route 89, passed away at SUNY Upstate Medical Center following a brief hospitalization.
The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:30pm on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Varick United Methodist Church, 2649 Ernsberger Road. A memorial service will then be held at 5:30 at the church, officiated by Pastor Barbara De❜Angelis. Prayers of committal will be held at Ovid Union Cemetery. Mildred was born at home in Ovid on June 8, 1914, a daughter of the late Bert LeConte and Loa (King) Myer. She graduated from the old Ovid High School in 1931 and received her bachelor❜s degree (with honors) in mathematics from William Smith College in 1935. She had worked as a secretary a Sampson Naval Base, and then worked for several years as secretary to the president of the Seneca Falls Machine Company. Additionally, she operated an antique shop from her home on Route 89. Millie also served as the tax collector for the Romulus School District for many years. She was married to Joseph M. Leary in 1953, and together they adopted two daughters. Following his death in 1971, she remained at the family home in East Varick. She had been an active member of the Varick UMC, and was formerly a member of the Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge and the South Seneca Senior Citizens. She married Maurice Bond in 1980, together they purchased a home in Florida and spent winters there for 20 years.

Mildred is survived by her daughters, Doreen McCann of Seneca Falls and Donna VanHoesen of Waterloo; her granddaughters, Jennifer(Ben) Faro of Sodus, Brittany (Matthew) Chamberlin of Newark and Catherine McCann of Seneca Falls; her great grandchildren, Madison and Colin Chamberlin, her stepson, Jeff (Betty) Bond and their daughter Analisa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Leary in 1971, and by her husband, Maurice L. Bond in 2008, and by her brother, Kenneth.
