Cynde Lou (Bond) Hammond, age 62, most recently residing at Cayuga Ridge Nursing Home, Ithaca, NY, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Cynde (an identical twin) was born July 12, 1955, a daughter of the late Miles and Mary Ellen (Carpenter) Bond of Ovid, NY. She was a loving daughter, sister, friend, wife, and a doting aunt/great aunt.
Cynde is survived and sadly missed by: Allan and Sande (Bond) Smith (twin sister and husband); Allen B. Harris (brother-in-law); the following nieces, nephews and their children: Ashleigh (AJ) (Smith) Webster and Rayleigh and Kinsleigh Webster; Miles (Lani Dresser) Smith and Carson Smith; Amity Smith; Audra (Ted) Brown and Olivia Bacon; and Bret (Leslie) Harris; as well as Uncle Carl and Aunt Liz Carpenter; several cousins/step-family and extended family members; and several close, long-term friends (including Penny Flora, Van Etten, NY and Stephanie Barrows, Shirley, MA). She is predeceased by her loving husband of 11 years, Dion Hammond; her parents; her brother, John Bond; her sister, Carol Lee (Bond) Harris; and her first love, Dana Hammond.
There were so many talents and gifts evidenced by Cynde. She excelled in everything she put her hand to. She had an extremely quick wit and a talent for helping people forget their troubles. She could easily become one of her many funny characters, complete with voice, accent, and dialog, which would have even the saddest person in stitches! She was a talented artist; a beautiful songstress (performing many solos and duets with her twin, Sande); and a gifted writer (having completed several creative writing courses and receiving recognition for several of the many poems and short stories she wrote).
Cynde's friends became family right away, and some were lucky enough to have it last their lifetimes. Her joy and compassion were reflected in her eyes - a beautiful sight to see. If you knew Cynde, you knew love! Her Christian faith and love of Jesus were apparent in all she did, and praise and worship of the Lord was of utmost importance to her! She handled her share of setbacks with grace and laughter. If you didn't get a chance to know her, you missed out!
There will be a memorial gathering in honor of Cynde at the American Legion Post 463, Ovid, NY, starting a 2 p.m. on Sat, July 28, 2018. All are welcome to attend, have a bite to eat and share some memories! In lieu of flowers, Cynde requested that donations would be made to the animal shelter/rescue organization of your choice in her name. She was a lover of all creatures, especially horses and peacocks!
