M. Thompson Curtis

Curtis M. Thompson age 77, of 3643 County Road 139, died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, February 4, 2014.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Saturday, February 8th, 2014, at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid. Prayers of committal will be held privately at Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken. Curtis was born in Interlaken, on October 23, 1936, the only son of the late Merle and Nellie (Trowbridge) Thompson. He was a graduate of Interlaken High School, where he participated in FFA. He owned and operated Thompson Farms, Inc. for over 30 years. After farming he worked for the Town of Covert Highway Department. After his retirement, he assisted with lawn care at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg, well into his 70’s. Curtis was very proud of his deep family roots in Interlaken, and was actively involved in the Interlaken Historical Society. He was an avid collector of John Deere toys and tractors. He was a member of the John Deere Toy Club and the Chrysler Car Club of NY, where he had an opportunity to share his knowledge of his beloved antique cars. Always wanting to be sociable and up to date on current events, many hours were spent at the diner, chatting with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed maintaining his home, reading and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ruth; and his daughters, Sue (Jim Chambers) Cummings of Charlotte, NC and Cindy (Mike) Mott, his grandchildren, Ben (Courtney) Mott, Katie Mott, Jack Mott and Grace Mott, all of Lodi NY. Curtis was preceded in death by his sister, Dr. Elizabeth Thompson.
