M. "Bill" Larsen William

William M. Larsen, age 68, of 3648 Orchard Street, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls.
Bill was born in Auburn, NY on February 22, 1948, a son of the late Laverne and Ruth Phillips Larsen. He graduated from Interlaken High School in 1966, and began a very industrious working career. Bill worked at Sampson State Hospital, transferring to Willard State Hospital where he retired as a mental health therapy aide. He also worked as a rural mail carrier from the Interlaken Post Office and retired with 20 years of service. All during this time, he served, and was currently serving, as Mayor of Interlaken for 34 consecutive years, which was preceded by 4 years as a village trustee. In his ‶spare″ time, he worked as a general contractor, cooked at the Quick Shoppe and was very active with the Community Action Group. Bill loved gardening and woodworking, he was an avid NASCAR and Yankees fan. He enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels, and many stray animals were lucky enough to find their way to his open door. Sunday dinners and morning coffee with his friends were very important to him. The family home was always the focal point for family gatherings and events. Many children and grandchildren blessed his life with their day to day activities. The grandchildren considered that to be their home too, especially Corrissa.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia; their daughter, Karrie (Brad) Helfman of Interlaken; children, Regina Blancke of Geneva, Bobby (Tina) MacCheyne, Jeff (Karen) MacCheyne, Danielle (Ken) Favreau all of Covert, 11 grandchildren and a great grandson; his siblings, Robert (Cathy) of Beaver Dams, James of Weedsport, Sandra Larsen of Fayette, Margaret McGough of Ovid, Helen Larsen of Willard, Carol Bobertz of Trumansburg, and Mary (Ken) Hampton of Las Vegas, NV and a very large extended family. Bill was preceded in death by a son in law, Frank Blancke, a stepson, Jimmy ‶Peaches″ MacCheyne and a granddaughter, Sierra Blancke.
The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid, from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Sunday, May 22, 2016. A Memorial Scripture Service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the funeral home, officiated by Fr. Bernard Maloney OFMCap of Holy Cross Church.
