Mary Ellen (James) Stevens, age 89, longtime resident of Lodi NY died on Friday, September 24, 2021.
Mary Ellen was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 20, 1932, the daughter of the late Ernest Lee and Marian (Frost) James. They sold their farm in Duchess County, NY in 1946 and purchased two farms here on the Townsendville Rd. She graduated from the Interlaken High School in 1949. In 1950 she married Irving Stevens of Lodi and they had three sons. She lived on the Lodi-Interlaken Rd for 70 years.
For many years she was the vice-president of Silver Thread Distributing Company, a family owned business. She then had a long career in federal service, working at the Seneca Army Depot, eventually retiring from the Tobyhanna Army Depot in the late 1990’s. She was a charter board member of the Lodi Historical Society and remained actively engaged with the organization for decades. She was a past matron of the Eastern Stars and a long time proud member of the DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution.
She will be remembered for her extraordinary baking skills, especially for the exquisite Christmas cookie platters that she prepared for family and friends.
Mary Ellen is survived by her sons; Lea Arthur (Faustine) Stevens of Morriston, FL and Aaron Thorne (Deborah Barr) Stevens of the East Lake Rd, Romulus NY; her grandchildren, Tara Walton, Vincent Stevens, Robert Stevens, Michele Smith; step-grandchildren Jori Cincotta and Brandon Jensen; and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Eric James Stevens; and her siblings Arthur James, Norman James and Doris Hanlon.
