Lloyd ‶Nelson″ Wertman Jr., age 74 of Poplar Beach Spur, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Geneva General Hospital following an extended illness.
Nelson was born in Connellsville, PA on April 12, 1941, the only son of Lloyd and Agnes (Barr) Wertman Sr. At a young age his family moved to Auburn, where he graduated from High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964, stationed in Amarillo, Texas. It was during his enlistment in Texas, that he met his future wife, Patricia, while he was playing lead guitar for a band at a local club.
For more than 25 years, Nelson worked as an insurance agent for Prudential, his territory consisted of rural Seneca and surrounding counties, where many of his clients were like an extended family. After 25 years with Prudential, he was able to realize his dream and become a full time fisherman. He fished his beloved Cayuga Lake during all seasons, only taking a break during the worst of the winter months. In addition to his love of fishing, Nelson was a passionate photographer of the outdoors, which coincided perfectly with his fishing. In addition, he would book the occasional wedding or other event that would help sponsor his fishing ‶habit″.
Nelson is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia; his children, Amber Simmons of Ovid, Chad (Danielle) Wertman of Brewster, NY and Brandi (Kevin) Moran of Disputanta, VA; and his grandchildren, Alison, Kaelyn and Emerson Wertman.
Friends are invited to join the family to commemorate a life well lived by Nelson, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, on Friday, November 6th, 2015 at Thirsty Owl Wine Company, 6799 Elm Beach Road in Ovid. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Nelson❜s memory to, South Seneca Ambulance, PO Box 280, Ovid, NY 14521
