Ralph “Pa” Jones, 98, of Interlaken passed away at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded by family on Friday, February 18, 2022.
The family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street Ovid. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, February 24 at the funeral home with Pastor Dave Spencer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Grove Cemetery. A dish to pass reception will follow at the American Legion in Ovid.
Pa was born on August 2, 1923, a son of the late Elmer and Louise (Carpenter) Jones. He served in the United States Army and honorably served his county during World War II. Pa worked for Borg Warner and following his retirement he took jobs at the Transfer Station and for the Town of Covert Highway Department.
He was a lifetime member of the Ovid VFW and American Legion as well as the All American Horse’s Ass Club. Pa enjoyed racing, a hobby he began at the age of 81, racing until he was 91. His greatest love was music and dancing. Pa could be found traveling to see his favorite local bands, The Mike Shaw Band and The Tarps, and was always the first on the dance floor and the last to leave.
Pa is survived by his children, Ralph (Rhea) Jones, Darla (Louis) Hathaway, Tom (Joyce) Jones, Charlene Champion, Tim Jones, and Jim Harrington; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and large extended family. In addition to his parents, Pa was preceded in death by his wife Bertha in 2010; three children, Marvin, Keith, and Martha Jones; a grandson, Kenny Steinruck Jr.; and his four siblings.
