Robert Burns Mannix, age 84, lifetime resident of Ovid, died at MM Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua on Friday, April 30, 2021.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Friday, August 13th, 2021 by Fr. Bernard Maloney OFMCap at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ovid. Prayers of committal with military honors will then follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Burns’ memory to kindly consider the VFW Post 6200, PO Box 1, Ovid, NY 14521.
Burns was born on June 6, 1936, a son of the late Robert E. and Dorothy (McCardle) Mannix. Following his graduation from Ovid High School, he proudly served in the US Navy from 1954-1958. Upon his return, he attended Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science in Syracuse and then worked as a research histologist at Cornell University. Burns then attended the Willard School of Nursing, and followed a long career there as a registered nurse. Burns was a life member of the Manning-Lilla American Legion Post #463.
He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Susan Bluer) of San Francisco, CA and Thomas Mannix of Palm Springs, CA; his siblings, Michael (Jan) of Clinton, IL, Patrick "PJ" (Sara) of Gainesville, FL, and Kevin (Peggy) Mannix of Fort Myers, FL; his nieces and nephews and their families; and the mother of his children, Maureen Augustine of Palm Springs, CA. Burns was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, John “ Rocco” Mannix in 1998.
