Roger M. Allerton Jr., age 89, longtime resident of Ovid, Willard and Romulus, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 in Canandaigua.
Roger was born on December 2, 1926 in Newark, one of twin sons born to the late Roger M. and Agnes (Huxley) Allerton Sr. He attended Newark schools and began a long career at Seneca Army Depot in 1944. He was called to serve his country in the US Army as PFC in Europe, serving from 1953-1955. He returned to Seneca Army Depot, where he was a tractor trailer driver, and retired in 1985. Roger was an avid historian, most specifically for the depot, and was active in the preservation of the white deer. His memberships included; American Legion Post #463 and VFW Post 6200, both of Ovid, the Romulus, Newark and Ovid Historical Societies. In his spare time he researched cowboy movies from the 1930❜s and 40❜s.
He is survived by his twin brother, William F. (Jane) Allerton of Canandaigua, and a nephew, William David (Mary Anne) Allerton.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am, at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid on Saturday, October 29, 2016. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00am, officiated by Pastor Rob Mellgard of the Ovid Federated Church. Prayers of committal will be held privately at North Main Cemetery in Newark.
