S. Hohwald Joan

Joan S. Hohwald, age 82, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Cayuga Ridge in Ithaca.

Joan was born on May 28, 1933 in Neptune, NJ, a daughter of the late William L. and Marjorie (Hulsart) Sahler. The family moved to the Lodi area from New Jersey in 1966, her family established the well- known Glenwood Pines in Trumansburg. Joan was an active member of the Ovid Federated Church, where she served as church secretary for 18 years, and as the choir director for 19 years. She lovingly lived with her mother, as they offered great companionship and assistance to one another, and then found comfort in living with her daughter, Wendy and granddaughter, Danielle. Joan was a devoted grandmother and the foundation of her large family.

She is survived by her children; Kenneth (Debbie) Hohwald of Lodi, Debra (Ben) Herrmann of Trumansburg, William (Linda) Hohwald of Leland, North Carolina and Wendy (Raymond) Blaylock of Lodi, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the Ovid Federated Church on Main Street in Ovid, officiated by Pastor James Yao of the Hector Presbyterian Church. As her final gift, Joan chose to be an anatomical donor to the NY Chiropractic College, interment will be held at the West Lodi Cemetery at a future date.
