Owen S. Sickler, age 27, died unexpectedly in Palmyra on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, as a result of a long struggle with drug addiction.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid. Rev. Lesley Adams of Christ Church in Willard will guide and comfort those in attendance, with a service at 7:00pm on Sunday, with an opportunity for friends to share memories of Owen. Interment will be held privately at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg.

Owen was born in Ithaca on June 17, 1989. He attended Trumansburg Schools, and had completed his GED. Owen had worked various places throughout the area, UPS, McDonald❜s, Cornell, Servicemaster, and had most recently worked for Seneca Properties as a carpenter and handyman. He was an avid fisherman, and could often be found fishing in Sheldrake. Owen had tried many times to overcome his addiction, through detox, counselling and various treatment programs. His addiction affected many of his relationships, please know that he loved you, and truly wanted to be clean and well.

Owen is survived by his son, Colton Sickler of Montour Falls; his mother, Cinnamon (Robert) Doane of Willard; his father, James Walawender of Pennsylvania; sisters, Brooke Grossmann of Spencer and Molly Doane of Willard; grandparents, Douglas Sickler of Ovid, Kitty Mynatt of San Luis Obisbo, CA and Edward Walawender of Hayts Corners, and by numerous cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Kay Walawender.
